rsmonials

RSMonials is a free Joomla ComponentRSMonials is a free Joomla Component that works natively in Joomla 1.5.x environment. This is a very simple and user friendly testimonial component. Using this component you can easily able to accept comments / feedback / review / testimonials from your clients or visitors. RSMonials is released under GPLv2 license which gives you right to edit the modify the source code any way you like it, see license for more details.

Once problem that this lovely open source component has is the lack of option disabling the link back to the author, "Powered by RS Web Solutions" to be exact.

In is good to give credit to the author, but it is not nice of the author to publish a component that has encoded back link. In my opinion, if you publish an open source software keep the user(s) in mind and not yourself... will have far more success.

Anyways, the problem is that we have this annoying link back to the author that ruines our beautiful template design (see screenshot below). It creates so much wasted space, 3 paragraphs of nothing...

Unfortunately solution is not that simple, to fix this you will have to edit one of the files and remove 1 line of code. The are several ways you can edit the file edit it on the server, edit locally and ftp, etc... The simplest is to use eXtplorer componenteXtplorer component and edit file directly on the server.

You have to be very careful, not to mess anything up. Make a backup before you start editing things.

Here is what you have to do:

  1. Open the following file for editing /site root/components/com_rsmonials/rsmonials.php
  2. Find and remove following lines of code (in the middle of the file, between lines 280 and 290). I am using RSMonials 1.5.3, if you use different version lines might be different.
    <p>&nbsp;</p>
    <div style="text-align:center;"><?php echo base64_decode('UG93ZXJlZCBieQ==').' <a href="'.base64_decode('aHR0cDovL3d3dy5yc3dlYnNvbHMuY29t').'" target="_blank">'.base64_decode('UlMgV2ViIFNvbHV0aW9ucw==').'</a>'; ?></div>
    <p>&nbsp;</p>

  3. Save and Close
  4. Preview the end result. As you can see below, the Powered by RS Web Solutions text is no longer there.
