Using this component you can easily able to accept comments / feedback / review / testimonials from your clients or visitors. RSMonials is released under GPLv2 license which gives you right to edit the modify the source code any way you like it, see license for more details.

Once problem that this lovely open source component has is the lack of option disabling the link back to the author, "Powered by RS Web Solutions" to be exact.

I was working on a custom Joomla 1.5Joomla 1.5 component for a company that required downloading  multiple CSV files. Downloading files one at a time would be annoying to the user, besides the size of these files was over 2MB each. Compression is the way to go! Joomla 1.5 has a wonderful class JArchive, that can compress files gzip style. The client wanted download a zip file, likely Joomla has another class called JArchiveZipJArchiveZip. This class can create zip archives, unfortunately it is not as easy to use as JArchive. So I went ahead and created a wrapper class that makes using JArchiveZip a peace of cake!

You probably noticed that if you type in boolcast.com or www.boolcast.com in your browser you will get to the same place. Wonder what the difference is? The answer is - there is not difference, for a human at least. This is just a preference that helps you improve search engine optimization (SEO). Search engines treat non-www and www domains as different entities for indexing. If you want your search engine ranking to go up at a higher rate you must decide on how you want your domain to appear, www or non-www. If you will not specify preferred domain your search rank will get split between non-www and www, putting you lower in the search results.

jdownloads_logo_bigJDownloads is a great component. It does it's job well, performance is good. It has it's problems, the source code is maintained but the architecture is outdated. It uses old Joomla 1.0 architecture for displaying views and NOT the Model View Controller architecture. I recently decided to remove the Powered By link at the bottom of component, turned out to be tricky.

Even though jDownload states that you are not allowed to remove the Powered By unless you paystates that you are not allowed to remove the Powered By unless you pay. There statement is faulty, the project is released under GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSEGNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE. According to license you can modify and even distribute the source code.

PayPal_mark_180x113All businesses are different and require specific software to run the business property. PayPal is a great service that millions use to quickly, safely and securely process online payments and send/receive money. Joomla being the most popular framework has many developers reinventing the wheel  and re-developng the IPN (instant payment notification) over and over and over again. I have seen some Joomla IPN that is horrible, not secure, bad logic, but was used by businesses. I while back, I developed a solid IPN for Joomla.
